Poem

London Harper explains bullies just the way other people explain bullies. They are mean, they never stop hurting you or deistracting you. In this poem she explains how bullies can be unsttoppable and are as mean as "dragons".She also explains that to never insult back or talk back. It;ll only make it worse. This poem is biased towards kids being bullied. She explains two people being "mean dragons" towards her. This text is really easy to understaind because she explains very well what it was like to be bullied. Also the title of the poem was bullying so it was very obvious to know it was about bullying.

"American Teen" -Movie

American Teen follows the lives of five teenagers that go to the same school in Indiana and the daily challenges they all have of going to school. American Teen follows Hannah Bailey an artsy, liberal, out going girl that is known as a misfit. Hannah wants to move out of Indiana and move to California after graduation to pursue her dreams as a film director. Colin Clemens is the star on the high school basketball team, following after his dad. Indiana is a very competitive state and basketball is the main sport here, Colin has the enormous pressure of the school and his dad to achieve his scholarship to college as his family can not support the intuition on their own. Jake Tusingis considered to be the nerd of the  school. Even though Jake is funny and sweet, people often misjudge his shyness and him in the school band as warning signs to stay away. Jake is crushed with self doubt and awkwardness in big crowds derails him from the normal popularity system which courses through the school. Megan Krizmanich is the student council Vice President and the daughter of a local surgeon. Megan is constantly stressing out over her parents pressuring to get into Nortre Dame University. It seems that Megan is the queen of the school as she is wealthy, smart and popular, Megan rules the school. American Teen takes you through senior year, from different perspectives of a jock, nerd, the Queen, and an artsy person. American Teen does not take a position as it only films the daily lives of the teens. The movie it self presents this in a way that the viewer will decide whether or not it takes a position depending on the viewers personality.
                                    Topic Rationale by Teddy Omi
Bullying. Many people think that it just happens to kids in younger grades through high school, but it happens everyday whether you like it or not. Throughout this project we will be explain what the reality of when bullying goes unattended. Such movies and works of literature as American Teen and London Harpor show the true hardships of a teen or child is bullied too far. Some of the articles in our project as well will show when a bully pushes their target to the point of self harm or even suicide. These are the kind of problems that we hope to address through out our topic. Though we do list some decent resources of "the truth" of bullies keep in mind that there are still many other  ways to learn about bullies and this is just a small amount of examples.

Bulling in America has become a very important issue in America today. It causes physical and mental harm to today's youth. In this article, by ABC news, Tyler Long's being bullying drove him to commit suicide. Tyler had a form of autism called Asperger's Syndrome which made many of the kids in his grade think he was different and strange compared to them. Because of this he received many verbal insults along with some physical violence. When the time came that his parents had enough of this, they went to the school principle to try and help stop all of the bullying that was causing their son harm. Once there the principle shrugged off the accusations and merely said "Boys will be boys". In Tyler junior year in high school he decided that he had had enough and hung himself in his bedroom closet. Once the group of teens that were bullying him got word of his death they started wearing nooses around their necks at an attempt to further insult him and the teachers and staff did nothing. This article is just one of the many examples of bullying going to far in schools and it is obvious now that this really is a problem in today's school life.

Teen’s suicide prompts a look at bullying

By Kathy Mcabe

Globe Staff / January 24, 2010 © Copyright 2010 Globe Newspaper Company.

This post if from the Boston Globe, Phoebe Prince is a new student at South Hadley High School. Phoebe recently relocated to America from her small farm in Ireland. The article explains how she is tormented from all of the students because of her accent through texts, in the halls, and even at home on Facebook. Even at home when parents think kids are safest they are ill informed, most of the bullying happened through text and online messages. This could explain why Phoebe believed that suicide was the only option since she was being bullied at home and at school, causing severe stress and depression. There are many reasons that Kathy could choose to write an article about this story, I personally believe that she would write this article to raise awareness about the harmful effects of bullying as all of the factors of bullying often lead to suicide, and mental disabilities such as depression.

Taunting:–noun
1. Provoke or challenge (someone) with insulting remarks: "students began taunting her about her weight".
2. Reproach (someone) with something in a contemptuous way: "she had taunted him with going to another man".
Candlelight vigil: A candlelight vigil is an outdoor assembly of people carrying candles, held after sunset. Such events are typically held either to protest the suffering of some marginalized group of people, or in memory of lives lost to some disease, disaster, massacre or other tragedy.

Cotillion: An elaborate dance with frequent changing of partners carried out under the leadership of one couple at formal balls.

Incessant: continuing or following without interruption .

Committee: an insulting gibe or sarcasm; scornful reproach or challenge. Obsolete . an object of insulting gibes or scornful reproaches.

    Three Questions

Comprehension: If Phoebe was getting bullied at school and the school officials knew about it, why did they not provide support and tell her parents what is going on so that way they can be informed on what is going on?

Application:If you were the parents of Phoebe what would you do, if you noticed that Phoebe seemed upset or distracted when she arrived at home?

Analysis: How can the school do more things to keep the school environment safe for students to not to think that suicide is the only option out of the taunting
